Clearing Your Home Before Moving Overseas
Making the decision to move abroad is never an easy or straight-forward to decision to make, whether the relocation is for business reasons, or whether you have retired and would like a different change of scenery, you should carefully think about whether this is the right decision to make for both you and any family that you may be moving with you.
Once you have made the decision and have started looking for properties abroad, you will be faced with another decision to make, what to do with the property you already own in the UK. Most people think that the best thing to do is to sell up before you leave, and if this is the only way you can finance the purchase of your new property you will have to do the same. Other people, however, decide to keep the property and rent it out for a few months while they settle into their new country and home and ensure that they are happy there. Whatever you decide to do there is one thing there is no escaping, packing up the stuff you want to take with you, and having the house cleared of anything else.
Unfortunately when you move to another country the expense of the move is greatly increased by the amount of things you wish to take with you, so much so that often makes more sense to just buy new stuff when your in your new country. This then leaves a lot of your belongings behind, you can sort through and dispose of, recycle, store, sell or donate the things you aren’t taking, however, with the new home in a new country to find and a lot of other stuff to sort out you may not have the time. This is where a clearance company would come in very useful for you.
A clearance company will remove everything from your home, leaving it completely empty, and will then either recycle or dispose of your belongings for you in a suitable manner. This leaves very little work for you to do, saving you a great deal of time and stress. Further to this, clearance companies are able to offer further services such as cleaning and/or de-cluttering (yes, they will help you to sort through your things). Using a clearance company is very beneficial, for the following reasons:
• More time efficient for you. Clearance companies are experienced in their job and have more staff therefore will be able to complete the job in a shorter time.
• They should have full liability insurance covering you, your property and your belongings in the event of anything going wrong.
• They are able to recycle up to 90% of your belongings and provide you with information as to how and where they have been recycled.
If you choose to clear the home yourself consider either hiring a skip to get rid of the rubbish for you, or a storage container, to help you to pack up all the stuff you want to take with you. Both of these ideas you will find beneficial.
Once you have cleared your home, you will need to give it a thorough clean before putting it on the market or sourcing tenants. If you intend to rent the house as a furnished property, you will need to ensure you have things like a cooker and a fridge/freezer in place and that all of these are either new, or clean and in good working condition.
Now your UK home is sorted, you can concentrate on your new home and the adventure you are about to go on.
