Before we look in more detail into the after-house clearance period, we first need to define what clearance actually is. House clearance is the process of removing clutter and unwanted items from one’s home and places such as the basement, the attic, the garage, etc. House clearance also means doing a full cleanup and disinfecting the living areas. It’s an important process for every home for multiple reasons. Even a small flat gets cluttered quickly. On the other hand, a big house needs house clearance every couple of years or so. Getting rid of old and useless items is necessary so you don’t end up living surrounded by piles and piles of things you don’t know what to do with.
People love buying, but hate throwing away and this quickly becomes an issue for the house and the people living in it. Another issue is the cleanliness and the air quality in the house. When you have so much clutter and items that haven’t been moved from their places for ages, this spreads mold, mildew and causes formation of rust; they attract pests and the area becomes a real bacteria magnet. This reduces the air quality and can cause health problems for people and animals alike. The best time for a house clearance is in mid-spring, when the weather is fine, yet not too hot. Most people worry about how they will cope with the clearance, but don’t think much about the after-clearance process. In fact, it’s just as important as the clearance itself. After you’ve spent a whole weekend or a few days clearing up the clutter at home, taking items for recycling, disinfecting and spot treating the dirty areas, it’s more than necessary to realize what all of this means.
House clearance doesn’t have to be an annual house chore, if you manage to preserve the house after the clearance. This means constant maintenance of the living areas, regular cleanups and keeping the house tidied up and healthy. How do you do that? First of all, don’t buy without throwing away. It may look impossible, but it’s the only reasonable way. Second of all, every now and then go through your wardrobes, drawers, garage and other areas that tend to get cluttered and get rid of everything you don’t use. Third of all, come to terms with the idea that your house looks better with less things and piles of clutter. After the house clearance you will most probably have plenty of things to get rid of. Sort them out accordingly – for junk, for recycling, for giving away or for selling.
That’s right – you can sell the things you don’t need any more and make some cash. After the house clearance keep your checklist of tasks and used detergents for the next time – it’s much easier to be prepared than to start all over. Make a list of things to do regularly (every 2-3 months for example) so the house doesn’t become the same mess. House clearance can be done on one’s own or you can hire professional services. However, this will be more expensive and you might end up slowing them down by taking time to think what to keep and what to throw away. The first time you do house clearance, maybe it’s better to try on your own so you spot all the issues and potential health hazards around the house, caused by the clutter.
